GPS Leads Man to Border Crossing, Marijuana Charge

Friday, July 03, 2009

PORT HURON, Mich. —  Authorities say a Michigan man was arrested on a marijuana possession charge at the Blue Water Bridge after his GPS mistakenly led him onto the span connecting the U.S. and Canada.

Port Huron police Lt. Paul Reid tells the Times Herald that the 30-year-old man turned onto the bridge by mistake Friday morning because he was following the instructions of his GPS unit.

The man from Macomb County’s Harrison Township had to go through a U.S. Customs screening and was arrested on a charge of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana. He was later released, but his name wasn’t disclosed.

The Blue Water Bridge about 55 miles northeast of Detroit connects Port Huron and Ontario over the St. Clair River.
